Be the voice! Report Child Sexual Abuse

As adults, we have a legal and moral obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being abused – they cannot speak for themselves.

Make A Report

A good faith report refers to a report made with honest intent, where the person making the report believes, to the best of their knowledge and judgment, that the information they are providing is true and accurate. The person making the report is not doing so maliciously or out of personal gain, but rather with the intention of addressing a potential issue or protecting someone from harm. In legal and professional contexts, good faith reports are often protected from retaliation, as the person reporting is acting in good faith to prevent harm or ensure safety.

What do I need to make a report?

Make your report immediately to child protective services or law enforcement and include:

  • Name of the alleged victim
  • Age of the child
  • Address where the child can be located
  • Contact information for the child’s parents or caregivers, if known
  • Types of abuse or neglect suspected
  • Reason for making the report, including specific signs of maltreatment and whether it is part of an ongoing pattern
  • Other children in the home, if known
  • Name of the alleged perpetrator, if known
  • The emergency nature of the report and whether the child is in imminent danger
  • Name, phone number, and address of the reporter.

Resources

“If you suspect a child is being sexually abused, it’s crucial to act immediately to ensure their safety. To report abuse and find local resources:

  1. Call your local child protective services (CPS) agency. Every state has a dedicated hotline for reporting child abuse and neglect. You can find the number for your state or county online by searching ‘child protective services [your location].’
  2. Contact law enforcement. You can report directly to your local police department or sheriff’s office. If a child is in immediate danger, dial 911.
  3. Use the National Child Abuse Hotline. Call or text 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) or visit www.childhelp.org. This confidential and 24/7 service connects you to resources in your area.
  4. Reach out to a trusted community organization. Many local advocacy groups, health clinics, or schools can guide you to the appropriate authorities.

Remember, reporting is not an accusation—it’s a request for professionals to investigate and ensure the child’s safety. Together, we can protect children and break the cycle of abuse.”
